Bio
Katherine comes to the lab with an interesting and rigorous undergraduate background, having completed a double major in biochemistry and evolutionary anthropology as well as a certificate in biological anthropology. She completed two co-op placements for her biochemistry degree, the first at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (Orthopaedic Research Group) and the second with the Hazardous Air Pollutants Lab at Environment & Climate Change Canada. Toward the conclusion of her undergraduate degree, Katherine worked as a research assistant, working on a lipid extraction protocol to examine stanols and sterols isolated from fecal substrates. Katherine enjoys lab work and looks forward to delving into the nitty-gritty of instrumentation.
Outside the lab, Katherine is a cyclist, making her commute to campus by bike everyday…so far. She is also a recreational boxer and an experienced lifeguard. She loves her dog Spectre and heads home for a visit each weekend. When not reading academic literature, Katherine enjoys diving into some fantasy adventure (e.g., Lord of the Rings) and historical fiction. Historical non-fiction will become recreational again once it’s not required reading. Bio by Jen Routledge.
