Project: Human-Animal Interactions on the Eastern Mongolian Steppe

Bio

Moses is a fourth-year PhD student in Anthropology at the University of Toronto and has been an important member of our lab for more than two years. His research focuses on understanding the possible Early Neolithic management of aurochs and the cause(s) of the Ovodov horse extinction in eastern Mongolia. He uses stable isotope analysis and zooarchaeology to reconstruct their diet, environment, sex, and demography. Moses aims to understand how climatic and human interactions have influenced these species' diets and environments over the last 40,000 years.

Before beginning his PhD under the supervision of Dr. Lisa Janz from University of Toronto, Moses earned his BSc from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria. His work on faunal analysis as an undergraduate student sparked his interest in horses and the potential of using stable isotope analysis to address significant archaeological questions. Moses hopes to use these approaches to address a number of significant archaeological questions in the future, including his ongoing work studying the interactions with horses across different archaeological sites in Nigeria.

When he’s not doing research, Moses likes to watch action movies like Back in Action, Den of Thieves, and The Equalizer. He also likes soccer, and the Chelsea FC is his favorite team. Moses enjoys listening to his favorite musical genre, Afrobeats. Bio by Ash Buchanan.
